Motivation

In the grand scheme of things I have realized that I will never win the lottery, I will never own a Lambo, I will never have a home on the beach, and I will continue to get old and soon life will pass me by. In the end like many songs, movies, and commercials have told you we all go to the dark spot in the ground. Some people are motivated by money in life. Some are motivated by their children. And some people are simply getting by with no motivation at all. Recently I attended a seminar about motivation. Now it was one of those deals where they bring you up with celebrity speakers and in between they throw in speakers of their own and while they do have some good things to say. They always end up being snake oil salesmen. There is a whole industry built upon the fact that people are not happy and seeking the answers to life’s little problems may be easier to find in a book or a class then in themselves.

With the age of technology it only makes those snake oil gurus even more aggressive. They take from those that need their help the most. Lets face it in this economy you don’t need anyone else taking from you. I am seeking out to help people. I am not going to charge a dime on my website. This blog will probably never be printed on a book. I am sure that no publisher wants me to put this out on a kindle or sony reader. This is for you.

Money

Why you cant be motivated by money is a very clear answer. You can amass the greatest fortune in the world. You can own ten houses, a yatte, and a private island. You can get that lambo! But the one thing you will never get is love. Love, respect, and friendship can never be baught. The circles you hang out with might accept you because of you money but will they really accept you?

Fake people and fake friends seem to follow rich people. Do you ever wonder why a lot of celebs have celebrity friends? Its because the people they are friends with can identify their situation with themselves. Celebs crack me up because a lot of people want to be just like them. They want to look, act, and certainly be rich like them. But did you ever think that for all the money they make. For all the wonders of fame and fortune, half of these people can’t even go into Walmart or Mcdonalds. If they did they would be bombarded with autograph hounds and picture takers. I can’t imagine a life where I couldn’t go to the beach without being on the cover of the worst dressed beach list with my belly hanging out! Its no wonder these people have to build palaces. Those are they only places they can go and be a real person!

Money in a way will cause you to loose your freedoms. You will be bound by things and people to which you do not need. But this is not to say that you should not have money. By all means make your fortune be happy. But don’t let money be the driving force in you life. If taking a job you love for ten bucks an hour less means that you have to stay in your apartment and drive the same old car then take it. If you work with friends and co workers that you absolutely love then stay there. Look deep inside yourself and find a part of you that will say is it worth it? And if it is worth it then you have found something that is worth more then all the gold in the world.

Family as a motivator

In a contrast to what I am saying remember while money isn’t a reason to be motivated, a driving force behind making more money is your family. When you do have a family you no longer live for yourself. You are joined together by a bond that is far greater then anything you will ever have for the rest of your life. Family is the most important thing in the world. If you have kids you will need to support your kids. At this point in your life your motivation should be one of support. If you are working your dream job and it does not pay enough you will have to either get part time work or find ways to work from home.

You can lead by example in this aspect. Do not take work home. This is a huge one. If something bothered you at work don’t take it out on your loved ones. If its something thats making you sad talk to them. They are there to support you also. There is nothing like the feeling of hearing my wife say it will all be alright. Because she is right. Things always work out. Things that are bad will last forever if you let them. If someone makes you mad its ok to feel like crap for a while. Just don’t let it effect you forever.

Find your happiness at home. This is your sanctuary where you are allowed to let your guard down and be yourself. The real you is what your spouse and loved ones care about not the work you. If at any point your job becomes a burden for your family. Its time to find new work. The bottom line is always look at your family for motivation and self help first.

Self-Help can be found within your circle.

The first step when things are bad is self help. While there are many options for people to get self help I found that when dealing with things in my own life the best way to seek help is from family and friends. Some books and websites may help but when you can, talk and get council from the people you know and trust. The doubt you have in yourself will be greatly lifted. There hasn’t been one problem in this entire world that someone in your circle has never faced. The problem with (pay) self help websites is that they are feeding on your sorrows.

You can get help. One of the first things I like to do when I have a problem is write it down. When you see it on paper it will implant itself into your brain. If its a problem that I cant solve on my own I usually ask someone their opinion. I will be honest with you there are times when i let things get to me. In some ways deeper then others. I try to find the motivation to fix them myself and hours or days can go by when I finally realize that I cant do this on my own. My wife is always number one with my thoughts. She can read me like a book. I don’t get why some people are so scared of having someone who knows them more then anyone else. Its very comforting to me.

If you do not have a wife or significant other talk to your friend or friends. Someone who you can trust. Talk to your family a sister, parent, cousin, whomever you are closest to. If you are all alone with no family or friends talk to a professional. Don’t think you can get self help on the web or over the phone. Talk to a person face to face. It will be hard but I know that you can do it.

Some motivational tools that help me in life are these:

When I have a bad day at work I always try to think of why I am here. Not everyone has had the same path as me so I feel very fortunate to be in a industry where I can be creative and have control of my work. I take a deep breath, go on a walk during lunch, or simply go outside for a ten minute break and reset. Find what works for you. It might be reading a book, eating a snack, or listening to some music. Just try and reset the brain.
Money problems get me down. I usually focus on the positives like having a roof over my head and food on the table. But the best way to deal with money problems is simply to deal with them. Don’t ask others for money or expect to win the lottery. Tackle the problem head on. This country is great in that if you can make something you can sell it. If you can take good photos sell them at the farmers market or local art show. If you can work with food get a part time job at a local eatery. If your only good with driving then find work driving seniors around. My point is be pro active. If you don’t have time to work a second job write a book. If you wrote a page a day you could have a novel done in a year. Who knows if its published you could make money 24/7.
Family and friends are the best motivators. Love them with all your heart they are your rock and your support. They are everything you need.
Inner peace. Once you have found this nothing will ever stop you from achieving everything you ever wanted
If all else fails seek help from a real person. Find a local councilor who works for a non profit and seek the help you need. If it gets to the point where you can’t even function seek medical help.
Never Give Up. Strive the be the best in what you do well.
Smile. I find that making myself smile boost my spirits.

The views in this blog are solely those of the writer. I am a real person and these are my thoughts. You do not have to follow them if you do not want to. I am simply expressing an opinion. Thanks for reading. I will be adding more to this article when I can. If you have any questions or comments feel free to add.
